The president of the American Urological Association and their director of research wrote me to confirm the AUA is investigating what to do about the transrectal biopsy. A Norwegian researcher estimates that 2,000 American men a year die from sepsis caused by these biopsies. A safer alternative is available, but urologists are slow to remain and change. My own doctor just made the switch.
