Equality To HGV Drivers, When away from family access to toilets and safe parking ...24/7

The Issue

Sounds simple going to the loo having a safe quiet place to park overnight and regular traffic updates.

So why are we peeing in a bottle  or if you get caught and need a number 2 ?. Am sure your beautiful imagination can work the rest out. Just because you had too park on a side of a motorway, lay bay or industrial estates as in Dover today that ordeal is being faced on a epidemic scale for those professional international drivers in the UK due to lack of basic parking facilities that are available in abundance EU.

it's easy to forget just how vital lorry drivers are with there variety of goods and swift speed they cut across continent but they are human beings not a programmed machine until it stops working.

We all have families or loved ones at home that we love to get back too see exactly the same as the drivers in Dover. But they are left stranded in work with maybe no fresh water in walking distance or hot food. Also there families back home worrying about there mental health and safety.

Solution every driver that is stacked on M20 and A2/M2 in the future will have access too a mobile shop to be able to make purchase after a 11 hour delay of being parked up, free drinking water handed and access too 1x free hot meal. Use motorway matrixes to transmit information In different languages or across Truck AM CB channels.

Multiple toilet blocks and showers blocks staggered along the M20 to Dover.

What’s other solutions maybe more HGV Parking Areas which are set back off the road and sheltered by trees to hide them from public view and noise pollution are free of charge with standardised facilities (eg.Toilets, Drinking Water Refill Point, Hot Showers At Larger Areas. Question were to have them at regularly spacing on motorways between services and similar on trunk roads and maybe when red lines are suggested due too HGV parking that a sensible alternative is found.

Also a limited  number of secure parking is desperately needed in certain areas to compliment the additional free parking mentioned above this could be chargeable parking by the hour set at a national rate, which would help support security fencing with a ANPR ticket entry/exit barrier system. Freight theft is at all time high most goes unreported.

Out of town Park and Rides made into dual usage areas.

24 hour access to clean toilets and hot showers at companies that international and national long distance drivers deliver goods to be legal entitlement to provide if they take over   certain amount of trucks.

Industrial Estates or RDC’s maybe need too provide a set amount of spaces for HGV for overnight rest stops and a significantly higher adjustment for certain style parcel centres is set into local planning laws.

Certain Companies also don’t help the drivers that have been delivering to them, by refusing access to their toilets due to Covid maybe or providing uncleaned toilets also portable loos with no lights, toilet paper and generally rancid smell. Make no effort to let you park on-site after a late or delayed unloading/loading at that companies site and kick you out into a residential area.

All port areas with roll on/off ferries style to have secure truck parking within a hour reach of the port and not massively out the way in wrong direction so it’s never used in normally operations by freight drivers and a average percentage of spaces is calculated by daily volumes of that selected port.

The costs let this sink in!

Smart Monterey upgrades could be introduced within two years at a cost of around £5-15 million per mile[16] as opposed to 10 years and £79 million per mile for widening.[17][18]

Cost of renting the Airport in Kent 5.7million

Freight crime per year estimated 250 million to economy.

Cost of a 40 space truck park fully secure

Total £1,020,000
