Nearly 200,000 Signatures — Tim’s Law Moves Closer to Parliament

We are now approaching 200,000 signatures — thank you to every single person who has supported Tim’s Law so far.

Your support is helping to push this campaign forward and bring much-needed attention to the issue of repeat dangerous driving.

We have now received a response from Lilian Greenwood MP, and efforts are underway to secure an MP to formally table a debate in Parliament. We have also received support from Angela Eagle MP.

This is a significant step forward, but there is still more to do.

Tim was killed by a repeat dangerous driver. This was preventable. No family should have to go through this.

Dear Linzi,

Thank you for your email of 16 March in response to my letter of 16 March.

Our new Road Safety Strategy sets an ambitious target to reduce the number 
of people killed or seriously injured on British roads by 65% by 2035. This 
target will focus the efforts of road safety partners across Britain, with measures to protect vulnerable road users, update vehicle safety technologies and review motoring offences. All of this will be supported and monitored by a new Road Safety Board chaired by myself as the Minister for Local Transport.

As you know, the drink and drug testing framework is an important element of 
the motoring offences consultation. The two key areas we are considering are 
the forensic testing procedures for example testing of saliva or sweat, and the taking of blood samples in hospitals.

Other measures we are consulting on include whether a person suspected of 
committing drink or drug offences should have their driving licences suspended until attendance at court or a guilty plea, the length of disqualification periods and creating new powers to allow for the seizure of vehicles of a person arrested for drink and drug driving.

Additionally, as part of our response to the consultation, we will be including a 
detailed response to the call for evidence on drug driving launched by the 
then Government, which closed on 28 June 2022. This focused on the 
introduction of a drug driving rehabilitation course and consideration of creating a drug driving high-risk offender scheme.

The consultation is broad and detailed but cannot, of course, cover everything 
and so includes the opportunity to raise other matters for our consideration.

We will be analysing the responses to the consultation after its closure on 11 
May 2026. 

The Government is committed to implementing changes to improve road 
safety for all and are considering and developing the policies and strategies 
to deliver these. We will share updates at a future date.
