I’m a Jewish creator who uses my platform on tiktok to talk openly about my experience as a Jewish person and spread awareness on the recent rise in anti semitic events. I’ve noticed that for as long as I’ve been on this app, tiktok actively censors Jewish creators when we talk about our oppression and experiences. I’ve had numerous videos been taken down for “hate speech.” Most of the videos were raising awareness about anti semitism, whether that be specific attacks, the recent rise in anti semitism, or calling out posts that had harmful anti Semitic rhetoric. I’ve been temporarily banned from posting twice on my account, both times after making videos about anti semitism. Most recently, I had multiple videos removed or muted that was addressing an anti Semitic attack on a Jewish school where neo Nazis hacked the website, changed it into nazi propaganda, leaked students and teachers private info to the dark web, and sent them death threats. This attack was so important to me, not only bc I’m Jewish but bc I attend a Jewish school very similar and close to that one. I wish I could say tiktok censoring me for talking about anti semitism was a unique experience but it’s not. Many other Jewish creators have also had similar experiences. Tiktok shadowbans us, removes our posts for violating community guidelines, and even bans our accounts, only when we address anti semitism. Tiktok also refuses to remove posts from non Jewish creators that contain violent and harmful anti Semitic rhetoric. I’ve had many instances where I’ve reported accounts for using anti Semitic hate speech, symbols, or rhetoric and tiktok rarely takes it down but will take down my videos calling it out for “bullying. It really proves how complicit tiktok is in anti semitism.
