Reinstatement of embargo on transportation of all animal trophies

The Issue

On April 28, 2015, South Africa Airways announced an immediate ban on the transport of hunting trophies on its passenger and cargo planes. The statement went further by stating that you recognize that most passengers that South Africa Airways carries go to Africa to enjoy the sights and sounds of living creatures and do not go there to kill it's most wonderful species and wildlife.

On July 20, 2015 there was an announcement about the new South Africa Airways decision: 'Uplift of Embargo on the transportation of (RHINO, ELEPHANT, LION & TIGER) HUNTING TROPHIES'

We respectfully request that South Africa Airways reinstate the original ban on the transport of hunting trophies on its passenger and cargo planes. This ban should include all hunting trophies.

It is believed that reinstating the ban will increase interest in the use of South Africa Airways for tourism. It has been recently determined by a poll that, by more than a three-to-one margin, responders said that if they could travel to Africa, they would prefer to spend their tourism dollars in a country that prohibits trophy hunting rather than one that allows it.

The ban would also allow South Africa Airways to fulfill its potential regarding the following:

SSA Vision: Africa's leading world-class airline

SSA Mission: To deliver commercially sustainable world class air passenger and aviation services in South Africa, the African continent and to our tourism and trading partners

SSA Values: Integrity - Practicing highest standards of ethical behaviour in all our lines of work and maintaining credibility by making certain that our actions always match our words consistently.
