We, the undersigned, are passionate users and supporters of the Thompson Skatepark, a beloved facility that attracts skaters from all over the Lower Mainland and beyond. This skatepark is not just a recreational space; it is a community hub where individuals of all ages come together to express themselves, build friendships, and develop their skills. However, it is time for an upgrade to ensure that it meets the evolving needs of our vibrant skateboarding community.

We urge the City of Richmond and the Thompson Community Centre Organization to take immediate action to:

Resurface the Skatepark: The existing surface is worn and approaching the end of its usable life. A durable, long-lasting concrete surface will not only enhance the safety of our skaters but also improve their overall experience.

Redevelop Existing Obstacles: Many of the current features are deteriorating and need to be repaired. By redesigning these obstacles, we can create a space that better serves the needs of today’s skaters.

Add New Features: Incorporating new elements such as ramps and other innovative structures will not only enrich the park's offerings but also attract more users, fostering a thriving community.

As skateboarding is now recognized as an Olympic sport, it is crucial that our local facilities reflect this status. Just as soccer and baseball fields receive regular upgrades, so too should our skateparks. The Thompson Skatepark deserves the same attention and investment to ensure our athletes have access to a modern training environment.
