P&Z Unanimously Votes to Recommend Denial of Application; 10/1 @ 5 PM County Commission Hearing Next

Last night, the Brevard County Planning and Zoning Advisory Board voted unanimously to recommend the denial of application #26Z00034 submitted by Defender Homes Airway Heights to rezone 14.37 acres of land at 1800 Turtle Mound Rd.

City of Melbourne Mayor Paul Alfrey testified that the city does not have capacity to support this application. This is the second time the advisory board has recommended denial of any change of zone and the second time the City has not supported a rezoning.

This is another win for our Lake Washington community but our fight is NOT over.

Next is the County Commission Zoning Hearing at 5 p.m. on Thursday, October 1, 2026. We ask all residents to attend this hearing and show that we are united in protecting our quality of life in Lake Washington and the Rural Residential-1 (RR-1) zoning as was defined and created in the 1980s.
