Whether you are a horse owner or an animal lover or just a human being, witnessing horses starve and suffer year after year without proper food and care is heart-wrenching. These magnificent creatures on a semi abandoned property in Gordon's Bay rely on food being thrown over the fence by concerned community members. There is a palpable fear that the day may come when that will not be enough. 

In South Africa, animals, including horses, are protected by the Animal Protection Act No 71 of 1962 which safeguards and guarantees their rights to proper food and care [Animal Protection Act No 71 of 1962, South African Government]. Yet, the plight of these horses in Gordons Bay contradicts and challenges this law. According to an estimation by the South African Veterinary Association, a significant number of equines are suffering beneath the poverty line. [South African Veterinary Association].

It is time to enforce our laws and save these helpless animals from distress and neglect. This petition calls for the direct intervention of animal welfare organizations and local government in the Gordons Bay area to ensure that these horses are provided with adequate food, water, care, and essential veterinary services.
