That’s what’s happening to Delhi’s street dogs right now.

They’re being taken from the only home they’ve ever known — the streets where they grew up, the people who feed them, the spots where they sleep — and dumped in unfamiliar places.

They’re scared. They’re starving. And many don’t survive.

This isn’t just cruel — it’s illegal. The Animal Birth Control (Dogs) Rules, 2023 clearly say that sterilized and vaccinated street dogs must be returned to their original territories. Yet, the rules are being broken in plain sight.

These dogs aren’t “strays.” They are part of our neighbourhoods, our mornings, our lives. They watch over our streets. They greet us with wagging tails.

They belong here.
