The trophy that men raise in the Football World Cup is worth 150,000 euros, and ours, the women’s, just € 30,000. What do you think? Is our effort worth 5 times less money?

As a footballer at the Spanish Female First League, and a person that strongly believes in equality in sport, I want the trophy that will be lifted in a few weeks by the players who win the World Cup in France to have the same value as the trophy for the Russian Men's World Cup 2018. We should do this so when it is your turn to go out on the field with your national anthem on the background, between hugs and confetti, what you raise is more than a trophy, it is a symbol of equality.

In writing this, I think of all those female soccer players of the future: those girls who go out to recess with the ball under their arms, those who share the goal with just three other teammates, those who celebrate a goal imagining themselves playing in a big stadium with tens of thousands of supporters cheering at them. I think of those girls who regret the end of the match when the bell announces that they have to go back to class. Of those that wear their pajamas with the colors of their team, those who ask their parents to take them to the stadium to watch a match.

We live in a moment of change, at a time when women's football is becoming more important. We are taking steps, little by little so that the next generation can have the opportunity to dedicate themselves to what you most like in a professional way: football. Equality needs to arrive to the sports world. We should use the opportunity of this Women's World Cup, I just wish for no one to ever wonder again if football is a sport for boys or girls. I wish that no one would have to combine football with another job because they can’t make rent. We have to fight for the sponsors to pay the same to men and women.

How are we going to move forward if FIFA - the institution that governs football federations around the world - is the first to promote differences instead of fighting for equality? That is why I am asking you to sign this petition to ask FIFA that the trophy raised by the winning women's soccer team has the same value as the men's one.
