Two weeks ago my 77 year old dad (Grandpa) Kamal’s lawyer was told by the Iranian authorities that Dad would be given a 10 day temporary release (furlough) from Evin prison for medical reasons, but Dad was not released and we don’t know why. We still haven’t got any details from Dad’s medical on New Year’s Day, and it’s not clear what the authorities are doing about his cataracts. This Wednesday 25th January we are again meeting with the UK Foreign Office Minister Tobias Ellwood, who is responsible for the Middle East. Minister Ellwood went to see the Iran Deputy Foreign Minister in Tehran last week – will he have any positive news about Dad? On 25th January last year, President Rouhani arrived in Europe for the first visit by an Iranian president for a long time. He spoke about opening a new chapter in positive relations. Of course, actions speak louder than words. Iran, please release Grandpa Kamal. Don’t let him die in prison.
