Dear 96,000 (!) Supporters, This Sunday 20 March is Norooz, the New Year under an ancient Persian calendar. This is a big day for the Iranian community worldwide and a time where families typically have fun gatherings at home. As part of the tradition, seven items signifying the beauty of nature which each begin with the letter “S” (when spoken in Persian) are laid out on a table. These include garlic, apple, spice and vinegar. Our Norooz New Year celebrations are tinged with sadness. The last time my daughters saw their Grandpa Kamal was 5 years ago, at a small Norooz party that he and my stepmum hosted at their home in London. A few weeks later, he was taken to Evin Prison. Your thoughts and prayers about 76 year old Grandpa Kamal’s awful predicament are much appreciated. We unfortunately have no good news to bring you at this stage. We wish you all a Happy Norooz New Year. Hopefully we will get good news soon. Kamran and family PS some of you asked for the link to the Amnesty petition to be provided again, as it was hard to find in our 5 March Update. Many thanks for wanting to sign that as well – here’s the link: www.amnesty.org.uk/actions/justice-kamal-foroughi-british-iranian-grandfather-prison-iran
