Mixed communications !!

Ok so today I have been told by Visa and Immigration  that the children are automatically British and need not apply for any status,..? This contradicts everything I’ve been told before from several legal sources,... so confused and even more worried. There needs to be a concrete answer!If the assigned authorities can’t get their legislation straight then how is this process to function.
