If anyone wants to know why we’re backing another march demanding a Final Say on Brexit, just look at what’s happened in politics so far this week.
On Monday, Labour finally got off the fence in support of a referendum on the Brexit deal – but then issued briefings that all may not be quite as simple as it seems.
Then Theresa May, who on Monday ruled out a delay on Brexit, stood up in parliament less than 24 hours later and said she would offer MPs a vote on an extension if her deal fails to get through.
At Prime Minister’s Questions today, both party leaders seemed desperate to talk about anything but Brexit.
What does it all mean?
Well, one thing’s for sure: our last march is still having an impact. The major parties are now moving into territory that many commentators considered was implausible just a few weeks ago. Together, the estimated 700,000 who marched in October changed the debate.
But now we need to march again. It’s now or never. We need to make a stand and send a very clear message to those in charge of this increasingly complex and chaotic process. The people of Britain want to have the last word on Brexit. Leaving it to party politics is playing a dangerous game of brinkmanship with all our futures.
MPs need to see – beyond any doubt – that the voters in this country are demanding the chance either to confirm our departure from the EU knowing what we now know, or else to say that Brexit simply hasn’t lived up to its billing and that we want to remain. Whichever of those opinions you hold, a referendum will give you the democratic chance to register your opinion.
So save the date: the Put It To The People march takes place in London on Saturday 23 March (gathering from noon on Park Lane). We need you there.
Here’s what you can do today: tell us you’ll be with us in London – sign up to the march here.
