Hi 184,244 of you!!

Exactly one year ago today, I stood outside Downing Street, with thousands of you, at the #FreePeriods peaceful protest. We formed a sea of red while we pleaded for the government to take action to end period poverty for good. We waved signs and banners emblazoned with period puns, and stood in the cold, inspired by the most incredible speakers, comedians and singers. What a night! Here’s a reminder of some of the highlights.

Activism really does work: two months after the protest, the government pledged to give £1.5m to address period poverty from the tampon tax fund. Yet, we are still waiting to see a long-term statutory pledge by our government to address period poverty in schools.

Let’s all continue our fight, continue raising our voices, and talking about our periods without shame and embarrassment. WE have all achieved a huge amount together in 2018, and we can’t wait to share with you our plans for #FreePeriods in the new year and how you can get involved.

Join FreePeriods, visit our website, and stay tuned!

Have an amazing Christmas!!  We are forever grateful to you for all your support this year.

Love, Amika xx
