Sadly, most "work-coaches" at JCP's around the UK think that they are engaged in a game of wills with their clients. Essentially, what these "work coaches" want to do is to manipulate the clientele to accept their will by making them feel demoralized. My former "work coach" took pleasure in using my age against me; the glee on her face told me that it gave her a sadistic satisfaction. And she kept using age as a factor to impose upon me that my days as a Graphic & Multimedia Designer are over. I am just not having any of it! Here's what would happen each time I saw her for an "appointment"... Here's her stupid game... I would arrive the JCP in good time. Often she'd make me sit and wait by pretending to do stuff on the computer. She's not very clever with the computer as I have helped her on a few occasions when things went wrong. At the most, what she was doing was to look for anything in my "work activity" that I recorded on the Universal Jobmatch site. So, she's not looking to see how she could strengthen my applications. No. What she is looking for is any excuse to turn hope into negativity. She's also looking for reasons to sanction! And because she cannot find anything negative that's when she brings up the question regarding my age; it frustrates her that I have salient counterpoints. She moves to strike and I have to counter. That's basically the nature of our "appointments". I do not see how such meetings can help me find work. But I am not passive; I take the fight to her and volunteer to undertake some tasks like creating a LinkedIn account and to create a CV specifically for being a Vegan Chef or Cook. My former work coach would then hijack my tasks to pass it off as her own initiative. Get this! She would not let me create an online portfolio for the purpose of showing prospective employers what I can do by the way of Graphic & Multimedia Design. She often gets self-employment confused with employment through an employer. She is a very odd woman and that's another reason why I have asked for a replacement.
