We demanded #DontBanPoppers, and we won! The TGA has made their decision - poppers are not banned in Australia, poppers are not illegal in Australia, poppers can be sniffed in Australia. Bottoms rejoice! But as always there is plenty more to understand from this decision that affects how we access poppers, please read on. > Not only have we won, we are vindicated in our fight for our access to the therapeutic benefits of poppers. The peak health body for medicines in Australia, the Therapeutic Goods Administration, in its decision today acknowledged poppers' importance for receptive anal sex, in a time where the War on Drugs is decimating communities, and queer rights are on the line, this is a moment for celebration. > How we access poppers may change - there are proposed modes for access through prescription or simply over the counter at pharmacies, depending on the chemical combination dictated by Schedules 4 and 3, respectively. Of course, there are online routes for access, and our sex shops must look into how they can negotiate their way through this decision - but for poppers users, this is a huge win. > States and Territories will now need to reassure their LGBTIQ communities that they will not criminalise access to poppers during the period before this ruling is enforced in February 2020 and allow poppers manufacturers to interpret and apply the decision. The TGA have endorsed our use of poppers as a sexual aid - a maintenance of the status quo regarding access is expected by the community for the time being and any crackdown on poppers will be met with fierce opposition by community groups and public health organisations. > Never, ever get in between a bottom and their poppers.
