Thanks to your help, the Last Chance for Lighthouse Point campaign petition about Disney’s planned cruise ship terminal on the island of Eleuthera in The Bahamas has surpassed 300,000 signatures! This number approaches the population of the entire country of The Bahamas, and it shows that people worldwide want to see Disney demonstrate leadership by saving this important natural place and addressing the reality of climate change.
Disney submitted an Environmental Impact Assessment in late December to the Bahamian Ministry of the Environment. The company says its Environmental Impact Assessment will set a “gold standard” and that it won’t start construction until there is a public consultation and governmental approval. One of our main goals is to ensure a meaningful public review of Disney’s still-secret Environmental Impact Assessment.
We must hold Disney accountable for its promises to protect the environment and provide sustainable economic opportunities for the people of the island of Eleuthera.
