Hi, all.
How are you? As you're probably aware, I shared with you last week that Disney has decided to release a filmed stage version of Frozen with the West End cast on Disney+, starring Samantha Barks as Elsa. Obviously, this is a big blow to our petition and what we were hoping for, and I shared that I would reflect on what my next steps are after hearing this news by the time Friday came around...
And I came to a pretty rough decision.
After over four years, I've decided that it's time to end this petition.
Believe me, I'm heartbroken over this. I really wanted Disney to see our petition and hear us, but obviously, that was not the case and they could only give Ciara, McKenzie, and Ryan the chance to reprise their roles on the national tour instead of giving them one final bow for posterity on Disney+.
There's a lot of emotions over this decision: anger, frustration, sadness, and regret. I could've done more for this petition and to get it to where so many others have gotten to, but I'm sad to say that in the past few years life got in the way, and for that I'm truly sorry for letting all of you down.
I'm so grateful to the over 6,500 signatures who believed in this cause, and in a way, we did gain a victory in getting filmed version of Frozen on Disney+. Unfortunately, it's not with the Broadway cast, which is what many of us were hoping for.
Thank you for all of your support, sharing the petition countless times, and even donating it to get more views and signatures. I don't know where I'd be without your support and encouragement.
I hope we get to a place where more live theatre shows are filmed for audiences who can't make it to the theatre for health, financial, and other logistical reasons so that they can experience the arts from the comfort of their own home.
First of all, please support the film on Disney+ in 2025. I've heard nothing but great things about the West End cast, and I'm sure they'll blow it out of the water (even if they can't compare to the Broadway and US National Tour!). Don't say mean things about Samantha Barks or anyone in the West End cast, as this show is getting ready to take it's final bow next month.
Secondly, please support live theatre! Encourage more and more people of all ages to go see a show, and not just in the big houses. The mid-sized and smaller houses matter just as much, and your support to the arts is tantamount in this day and age as we are still recovering from the pandemic.
And finally, this isn't the last you'll see of me. I'll still be around coming up with petitions that support the arts. There are issues and stories that deserve to be shared and fought for in order to make the change we want to see happen. You believed in a cause that was worth fighting for, and while it didn't lead to the result we wanted, we have a big victory in getting Frozen on Disney+, and I couldn't have done it without all of you.
I encourage all of you to feel every emotion as I am feeling now with this decision, because it's okay to cry, get mad, and be frustrated. And I hope that challenges you to take action for arts-related issues and causes that you care about and want to see changes in your community.
I'm proud of what we've accomplished in four years, and I'm so happy I got the chance to do something scared and to have this amount of support.
Thank you for letting me be a part of this journey with all of you. I love you all, and I wish you all success in all of your endeavors.
God bless you!
