In 2010, 21st Century Fox released their film adaptation of Percy Jackson and the Olympians: The Lightning Thief.  To put it lightly, this film, and it successor, did not meet fans’ expectations. In fact most fans of the books hate these movies with a passion. In 2019,  Disney has bought the rights to Fox officially. This gets me thinking, what will happen to the Percy Jackson rights? They were still owned by Fox before Disney bought them, which could mean that they are still around somewhere. With Disney soon to be creating their own streaming service, this would be a great time to reboot the Percy Jackson series into a film or television series. These books deserve a good adaptation. One where the actors are in similar age and the light humor is present, along with the darker themes that appear later in the later novels. Disney, a company that has found success with Star Wars, marvel, and family films, could pull off a movie that is faithful to the series it belongs to. Author Rick Riordan even posted a blog a while back talking about the film is being remade. {http://rickriordan.com/2018/11/memories-from-my-tv-movie-experience/  If he is on board, what’s stopping Disney from making these films? If Disney is not ready to embrace another cinematic universe, on top of both Marvel and Star Wars, Netflix would also make a great contender for to bring the series to life. Their experience with creating good series and finding decent child actors (hello Stranger Things) would make a great combination for not only Percy Jackson, but also the Heroes of Olympus, The Trials of Apollo, Magnus Chase et al. Netflix is also apparently searching for new books, so this would be the perfect time for them to buy the rights. Riordan does not believe this could happen, but I have faith. In classic Internet fashion, I have decided to make a petition to give attention to why Disney should reboot the Percy Jackson films. Let’s get these books the on screen story it deserves!
