Star Wars is certainly one of the most beloved and influential properties within popular culture. As such, we believe that the fundamental values of its stories should consistently be applied throughout its lore and canon.

For those unfamiliar with the topic, Jango Fett (and his son Boba Fett) are infamous bounty hunters within the Star Wars universe, and they are two of the most popular characters among the fan base. Their ship, Slave I, is known as one of the deadliest vessels in the Galaxy.

While we do not believe that there was any malicious intent when Lucasfilm named the ship Slave I, we do believe that the name is inappropriate given the renewed fight against systemic injustice and racial inequality in the United States and around the world. Slavery is a horror that has plagued humanity for millennia, and we do not believe that its legacy should be so casually referred to within a universe as prominent, influential, and loved as Star Wars.

That said, we are requesting that the Walt Disney Company and Lucasfilm rename the ship within the official Star Wars canon.
