Hello, everyone.
Joyous news to all you Rio fans, including me!
After almost a year of sadness & uncertainty, we have recently & finally received word that Disney WILL, in fact, continue the Rio Franchise & keep it alive, like with what with they're doing with Ice Age (starting with The Ice Age Adventures of Buck Wild).
This new has recently been detailed from the Disney+ PR page as The Ice Age of Buck Wild was promoted.
The news that the Rio franchise is being kept alive by the Disney company has also appeared to stem from Production Notes of the same movie.
Here are a few examples of articles stating the news.

The news has even caught the attention of users on Wikipedia, who recently added the news in the Rio (2011 Film) & Rio 2 pages, AND added a Production Document as a reference.

One thing's for sure. Thanks to the recent news, Disney, 20th Century Studios, & 20th Century Animation WILL keep the Rio Franchise Alive & continue it.
As you can tell with the Update's picture of Linda & Tulio in the Carnaval Parade from Rio 1, as a huge fan of the Rio franchise, I am very happy that the Rio franchise will be kept alive & will continue on, even if it'll now be under Disney, 20th Century Studios, & 20th Century Animation. And that's saying a lot. I watched the 1st Rio film in theaters back in 2011. But my love for the film & the franchise (after the release of Rio videogames, Rio 2, Rio: Match 3 party, etc.) had been amplified thanks to one other franchise... Rovio Entertainment's Angry Birds.
It was because of Angry Birds and that franchise doing so many crossovers, like with Rio, SEGA's Sonic the Hedgehog, Disney & Lucasart's Star Wars, Hasbro's Transformers, Iron Maiden, & so much more that I love all these franchises so dang much.
So if you're a Rio Fan, such as myself, you don't have to worry about the Rio franchise coming back any longer. Thanks to the news that people have stumbled upon, we can finally chillax knowing that Disney, 20th Century Studios, & 20th Century Animation will, indeed, bring back, keep alive, & continue the Rio franchise once more.
I know Mr. Coat would be very happy that Disney, 20th Century Studios, & 20th Century Animation will keep the Rio Franchise alive, allowing it to continue & get more new content.
If you don't know what I mean or who Mr. Coat is, watch the video in the following link. It showcases Mr. Coat's reasons to how much of an impact the Rio Films have made. It's also another one of those reasons to why I believe the Rio franchise should stay alive & continue on with more new content, like with the Ice Age franchise.: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uN5v-z2FbNU
All in all, in a way, we've saved the Rio franchise.
#SaveRio, or should I now say, #SAVEDRio
IMPORTANT P.S. / IMPORTANT WARNING!: Now, here is something that I do want to warn you all right away.
I won't lie. I understand that some will be concerned that the Rio Franchise will continue without Blue Sky Studios, & NOT everyone will be comfortable or even happy with the decision. For one thing, at the time of this news, the Blue Spix Macaws, the real-life birds that Blu, Jewel, their children, & the Blue Spix Macaw tribe are based from, are currently classified "Extinct in the Wild", & the only remaining real-life Blue Spix Macaws are in captivity, preservation, and/or conservation. So I'll admit, I understand why people would rather not want the Rio Franchise to continue.
Not to mention that there are still people who are still sour, salty, bitter, & angry that Disney had shut down Blue Sky Studios, especially since Nimona & other projects got cancelled as a result; and now those same people are more livid with the company now that Disney, 20th Century Studios, & 20th Century Animation, now that they're bringing back Ice Age & Rio after Blue Sky shut down.
So to keep this short, some people, especially those who are fans of the Rio franchise, will be happy that the Rio franchise will be kept alive & will be coming back & continuing, thanks to Disney, 20th Century Studios, & 20th Century Animation; and others won't. So this is basically a mixed bag.
