This year the Bald Head Island Conservancy reported record numbers of turtle hatchlings with a reported 12% of eggs lost to natural predation. Coyotes are being blamed for eating this small fraction of eggs. Despite these record breaking numbers, The Bald Head Island Conservancy and the Village of Bald Head Island officials have hired a trapper to set indiscriminate leg hold traps and snares to catch coyotes and kill them.  Domestic pets, children and other wildlife are at risk of falling victim to these traps. Traps cause immense suffering and panic until the animal is killed by the trapper.

Their plan is cruel, immoral and proven by the nation's leading coyote scientists to be completely ineffective. In fact, killing adult coyotes sets off a chain reaction. The remaining coyotes will breed faster and have larger litters. This is why the widespread killing of coyotes in the US has not worked. It has only strengthened their numbers. Tell the Bald Head Island Conservancy and The Village of Bald Head Island to immediately cease their barbaric and inhumane plan to set traps and kill wildlife.
