Faringdon’s globally unique cultural and scientific asset is under threat.
A 29,570 sq m industrial/ commerical development ON TOP OF THE SSSI would obliterate this unique geoheritage site, and end 500 years of scientific research and teaching - AND IT WON’T STOP THERE.
If they can get away with building on top of a Site of Special Scientific Interest, Conservation Target Area with over 30 recorded Priority Species, located in the National Character Area of the Midvale Ridge - WITHOUT SUBMITTING A SINGLE ENVIRONMENTAL REPORT OR ASSESSMENT REQUIRED BY THE COUNTY COUNCIL'S VALIDATION lIST - these developers intend to use this to justify building 2,500 HOUSES ON WICKLESHAM FARM – doubling the size of Faringdon south of the A420.
You can read the glossy brochure which touts plans for 2,500 houses here, on pages 242-403 :

Isaac Newton put FARINGDON on the map when he sponsored their collection from Wicklesham Quarry! And Charles Darwin saved Mantell’s Faringdon Fossil collection for the nation.
