A new Appeal is launched today to raise funds for the outstanding legal costs of Wicklesham’s Judicial Review. Please will you make a donation to the costs of our important case?

We raised £4,560 of a £20,000 target to fund the full hearing in the second Appeal. The legal team believed this important and unique case deserved access to environmental justice, and so decided to go ahead. Because of their commitment, we have made significant achievements.
The High Court definitively upheld Wicklesham Quarry’s planning conditions for the first time, and stated that both the Restoration and 5 year Aftercare Schemes must be carried out. Without the Judicial Review we would not have had this important ruling, which is both an important legal victory and an environmental safeguard for Wicklesham Quarry SSSI.
Although judgment was awarded against me, the judge supported key arguments local people have made since 2014-15, that both Faringdon Council and the Vale of White Horse District Council have ignored. These were legal points - not matters of opinion.
You can read a summary of the court's judgment on each of the 4 grounds, and what legal points were upheld, by clicking on the CrowdJustice link. This ruling will be important in any future attempt to develop the quarry for industrial use, because it states (among other points) that the Neighbourhood Plan policy is in conflict with the strategic policies of the Local Plan and was therefore unlawful.

All this has been achieved only because of the hard work and dedication of my barrister, Pavlos Eleftheriadis, and solicitor, Linda Felton.
£5,000 costs were awarded against me, and after paying costs, court fees and expenses, only a quarter of my legal fees were paid. We brought the case with a total fund of £15,000, and I am extremely grateful to my legal team for going ahead with such enthusiasm. It would be unfair for them to carry so much of the cost of our case, and the new Appeal target is £18,000. Please will you support the Appeal and make a donation today?
As explained in the CrowdJustice page, the case has raised many concerns regarding the examination process, the content of the plan, and the roles of the District Council, and County Council. These are now being followed up. Please get in touch with any questions, comments or offers of help by emailing: protectwicklesham@gmail.com.
