Dear Alex Meredith, Faringdon Councillor & Green Party candidate, Does the 'passion for sustainability and the environment' you boast of on your Green Party website mean you fought AGAINST Faringdon Council's plan to help the landowner of Wicklesham Quarry turn it into a 20 acre industrial site? Please correct me if I'm wrong, but I understand you, with the rest of your fellow councillors, are in favour of destroying this site, and actively working to ensure it is destroyed? The people of Faringdon would like to know- & also, no doubt, your potential constituents and Green Party members? This internationally important SSSI for earth sciences is also a Conservation Target Area in Oxfordshire's Biodiversity Action Plan. It is a mature breeding site for European Protected Species, & Wicklesham tetrad hosts 11 rare plant species. It lies in open countryside in the protected landscape of the Midvale Ridge, & has planning conditions stating it must be restored to agricultural use. Of course you know all this - because I've emailed you every update posted on the petition to PROTECT WICKLESHAM QUARRY FROM DEVELOPMENT- none of which you have acknowledged. (See https://www.change.org/p/faringdon-town-council-the-vale-of…) In spite of the fact that 4 independent reviews have rejected it as unsuitable, unsustainable, & 'far in excess' of Faringdon's needs - Faringdon Council shamelessly handed over the Neighbourhood Plan's policy on employment land to the landowner's sister & land agent- in order to give them a free pass through the planning system. Every aspect of this calls Faringdon Council's probity into question, and you, Alex Meredith, share responsibility for Faringdon Neighbourhood Plan. So maybe you would now tell the public how you voted?
