Yesterday, we received the tragic news that we had our highest ever daily death toll, but tomorrow morning over 1 million children must still return to school, simply because they don't have the means to learn at home? Why is this happening?

The children of key workers and children deemed vulnerable are still going into school, which is a necessary requirement. But all children who don't have internet access or a device (estimated 1.1-1.8 million) don't need to be making this journey. There are safer and better ways to provide these children with educational resources they can use at home.

before Covid-19, during Covid-19, and post Covid-19 digital inequality was, is, and will continue to be an issue, unless we take action and push for change.

The Government needs to recognise that learning has transformed. It's 2021, and we live in a technologically driven world. Children not only need access and a device to learn from. They also need education on how to be a digital citizen and use the internet safely, and teachers need efficient online teacher training.

Like most other things, the Government has not planned effectively for education during Covid-19. And now, the most vulnerable children in our society are paying the price.

Thank you for continuing to support this cause and strive for change. Please keep sharing so we can gain more recognition and put more pressure on the Government to recognise these issues and acknowledge that they need to do something about them.
