Gavin Williamson has announced that children without laptops can go into school as normal. But that means that around 9% of all children in the UK, who are already vulnerable, have to go into school. Therefore, putting themselves, their families and teachers at risk.
How is this lockdown going to work if over 1 million children are still making the journey into school each day?
The Government has had over 9 months to prepare for this situation, but as usual they have not made the right decisions. We need to push for change! Make internet access free and provide a learning device to ALL vulnerable students in the UK.
Some quotes from headteachers who talked to BBC News:
"It is important that all vulnerable pupils have access to a school place, but the government must provide laptops and internet access for every pupil that needs one, so that they can access home learning to take some of the strain off the demand for school places."
"Nearly half of head teachers who we polled during a webcast on Wednesday evening said that had received fewer than 10% of the laptops they'd requested."
"It is essential that this is rectified immediately, so that we can keep school attendance figures at a level which will have the desired impact on getting transmission rates under control."
Thank you for your continued support on this!
