We have been allowed back into the Trenton Animal Shelter and continue to have full access to the kennels, but there is a still a massive overcrowding crisis.
There are currently at least 12 dogs still living in crates throughout the building. They do not have continuous access to clean water. They do not have adequate space to move around. They are not getting out of these crates as often as they should for their mental and physical health. The shelter remains understaffed and under-resourced.
There are also over 40 dogs at Yardley Kennels in Bucks County, PA. From what we are told, those dogs are being boarded at a cost of over $1,400 A DAY to the taxpayers or the City of Trenton.
Some of the dogs in the kennels are so stressed out, they are eating their beds and bowls. The noise is deafening. This is urgent.
We need every single person reading this to do one of three things TODAY:
- Apply to foster or adopt at tarnj.org so we can move more dogs into safe homes. If you are with a rescue, email jmunoz@trentonnj.org
- Share this story on social media and encourage people to foster, adopt or donate
- Make a donation to tarnj.org/donate. We will continue to pull medical cases as long as we have funding and fosters to do so.
This is still a crisis. The city cannot continue to care for 80+ dogs forever. We need more people to foster, adopt, rescue and donate.
