The Texas Medical Board needs to be reviewed and changed. It wastes taxpayer money (over $20,000 each for expert witnesses at Dr. Burzynski's trial, plus cost of a 4-person legal team, a court reporter and two judges) and when all is said and done, the judges in the case do NOT have final ruling. The TMB does! The TMB has 600 to 700 hearings a year; even the Austin judge on the Burzynski case stated "Obviously someone above my pay grade needs to look at TMB policy." That overview entity is called the Sunset Commission. In 2007 a judge complained to the TMB that they held an entire hearing for one doctor's minor billing issue. The TMB also has transparency issues. Their two main phone numbers are either busy or disconnect. Their spending information needs to be available to the public on their website as well. Meanwhile, the TMB is slowing medical progress. For example they are opposed to the use of today's technology to evaluate patients. Finally, and most importantly, we have found conflict of interest with board members and their ties to companies they own or drug companies they have met with repeatedly. We need to know if there is a record of any TMB member ever recusing themselves from a committee or a particular case because of a conflict of interest? Wasteful Use of Funds (excessive costs for expert witnesses, etc. and the fact that SOA judges can't even make a decision after all that money was spent!) 2. Transparency (They won't answer our questions about financing via email. When you call their office they don't answer.) 3. Selective Enforcement (They spend large amounts going after one doctor for billing issues while looking the other way about another doctor flagged for standard of care issues by FDA) 4. Slowing of Medical Progress 5.
