Justice for Armani Dante Morgan

Our lives, like countless others, have been forever altered by an unsolved homicide in Dallas, Texas. The anguish of losing our son, our only child, and a cherished nephew is indescribable. What compounds our pain is the persistent lack of resolution, leaving justice seemingly out of reach. We are compelled to question whether cases like Armani's are being deliberately neglected. Recent public safety data from Dallas reveals an alarming 35% increase in unsolved homicides in 2023! 

In addition to the challenges in progressing Armani's case, our family has endured multiple false media and news reports from local and national outlets. Mislabeling Armani as transgender and spreading false and inflammatory information has added immeasurably to our family's anguish. One report referred to Amani as "bones in a field" and did not refer to him by name.  

On June 3, 2017, Armani Dante Morgan disappeared. His partial skeletal remains were discovered on July 24, 2017. For nine agonizing years, we have tirelessly fought for Armani's case to receive the attention it deserves from the Dallas Police Department (DPD). However, we believe more can and must be done. Today, on what would have been Armani's 34th birthday and six years after his death, we launch this petition to demand a renewed and intensified effort concerning Armani's unresolved cold case.

Our Demands:

We hope that the transfer of Armani’s case to The Texas Attorney General’s Office Cold Case Unit will result in:

1. Immediate Forensic Re-testing- Modern DNA Analysis: Perform updated forensic testing on all physical evidence collected in 2017 using current technology (e.g., Touch DNA or Forensic Genetic Genealogy). Independent Lab Review: Ensure evidence is examined by an independent state or private lab to bypass previous local backlog or oversight.

2. Investigative Narrative Correction- Formally strike the "accidental overdose" theory from the case record, which the family asserts is a false narrative created by the initial detective despite evidence of violence.  

3. Active Pursuit of Known Leads- Re-interview witnesses: Re-examine the individuals involved in the documented "targeted violence" and assaults Armani suffered in the weeks leading up to his disappearance. 

4. Cause of Death Clarification-  Changing Armani's death certificate to reflect his case as a homicide instead of "undetermined."

5. Establishment of a Cold Case Homicide Unit- Create a dedicated cold case homicide unit, addressing the challenges faced by DPD and leveraging advanced technologies for all cold case investigations, including Armani's.

• We understand that the DPD faced challenges related to "burn-out" and a lack of financial and human resources. However increased attention and leveraging new technologies can help advance all cold case investigations, including Armani's. Other states have seen success using dedicated cold case units or forming external partnerships.
