On Thursday afternoon, one month ahead of Rosh Hashana, the number of Jewish pilgrims to the Temple Mount passed the 20,000 mark for the Hebrew Year 5777. Furthermore, the Hebrew month of Av finished with 4,000 Jews passing through the gates of the Mount, while last week alone was witness to 716 Jewish pilgrims. It is safe to say, that the Tempel Mount has not seen so many Jews ascend to her in a single year since the destruction of the Temple 1,948 years ago by Rome. Despite the strict Israeli regulations against Jewish prayer at the site and Muslim attempts to thwart Jewish presence through violence, Jews from across Israel continue to stream to the site. Also, many thousands are expected to participate in the monthly circling of gates of the Temple Mount, which will take place on Monday evening to mark the beginning of the Month of Elul.
