The Strength & Honor Act
The Issue
⭐️I write to you today on behalf of a group of citizens who have borne the heaviest, most agonizing burden of our nation’s defense: America's Gold Star Families. As our elected representatives, you have consistently demonstrated a profound commitment to our military, our veterans, and the enduring principles of liberty. It is with great respect for your leadership that I formally request you draft, introduce, and champion a historic bill in your respective chambers to grant lifetime federal and state income tax exemptions to all Gold Star Families.
In honor of the profound character of our fallen service members, I respectfully propose that this legislation be named the "Strength & Honor Act." This title stands in loving memory of those very attributes echoed by one of Kansas’s own sons, Army Sergeant Willsun "Will" Mock, who was killed in action in Baghdad, Iraq, on October 22, 2006. Sgt. Mock's legacy of bravery represents the highest ideals of Kansas and the nation, and naming this bill after the values he was raised and lived by will serve as an enduring tribute to him and every hero who made the ultimate sacrifice.
The fabric of our great republic is woven from the courage of the fallen. Every freedom we exercise, every economic opportunity we enjoy, and every breath of liberty we take has been purchased with the lifeblood of our service members. They gave what President Lincoln famously called "the last full measure of devotion." Yet, while our fallen heroes rest in eternal peace, their families remain here, carrying a perpetual grief that time can never fully heal. The empty chairs at their tables are a daily reminder of a sacrifice made on behalf of the entire nation.
While no legislation can ever return a loved one, and no measure of material wealth can fill the void left by a fallen soldier, our laws should reflect the depth of our nation’s gratitude. To ask these grieving families to continually fund the federal government with their hard-earned income—the very government their children, spouses, and parents died to protect—is a burden we should no longer impose.
Exempting Gold Star Families from federal taxes for the remainder of their lives is not a matter of charity; it is a matter of profound honor and national reverence. It is a tangible, enduring statement that America remembers, appreciates, and recognizes that these families have already paid their taxes to this country in blood.
I urge you to lead this noble endeavor. By introducing these legislations, you will not only provide meaningful relief to families who have given everything, but you will also inspire the nation, demonstrating that the United States Congress and its states stand irrevocably with those who sacrificed the most for our freedom.
Thank you for your time, your consideration, and your ongoing service to the people the United States. I look forward to your response and to the possibility of seeing these vital legislations brought to the floor of Congress and the States.
With the highest respect and gratitude,
Strength & Honor!
