When I view sports on television, I proudly respond accordingly if the networks include the performance of our National Anthem, "The Star-Spangled Banner." Unfortunately, camera footage often focuses on random athletes and fans who may not be engaged in the moment  a while the National Anthem is being performed. I feel TV viewers should have the opportunity to focus on our National Flag rather than random camera shots of those in attendance at the event.

Currently, many networks broadcast the National Anthem during sports events but often emphasize filming the athletes or the crowd instead of the symbol of our nation – the American Flag. This emphasis can detract from the moment's solemnity and patriotism. A straightforward solution would be to incorporate the American Flag prominently on the screen through a Picture-in-Picture feature whenever the National Anthem is broadcasted. This approach would allow viewers to engage more deeply with the moment and the symbol of our shared values and freedoms.

Television networks have a significant influence over how events are perceived by millions. By focusing the visual coverage on the American Flag during the National Anthem, networks can play a crucial role in fostering a sense of unity and respect during these moments. This change would not only enhance the viewing experience for those who hold the flag and what it stands for in high regards but also educate and remind viewers of the importance of the Flag in representing our nation's history and values.

Statistics show that displaying patriotic symbols can boost national pride and unity. According to a Pew Research Center survey, 79% of Americans believe public displays of patriotism improve the unity of a nation. By shifting the camera's focus to the Flag during the National Anthem, television networks can contribute significantly to enhancing national pride.
