The city commission ignored the will of the voters  who overwhelmingly chose to relocate the new fire station in another location and listened to special interest groups. The result is that the commission reversed its decision and is going to demolish the South Shore Community Center. The daycare center will be moved into a trailer in Flamingo Park and the city will lose a building designed by the world renowned architect Morris Lapidus, whom Miami Beach named to its hall of fame in 2019 and created a historic district in his honor.
