Make Scottish Elections 2026 a plebiscite

Make Scottish Elections 2026 a plebiscite
The Issue
In 2014, the people of Scotland were asked whether they wanted their nation to become independent. They were warned that a Yes vote risked forcing Scotland out of the European Union. Scotland voted No.
Two years later, despite voting overwhelmingly to Remain, Scotland was dragged out of the EU against its will, following England’s Brexit majority. Since then, repeated requests to Westminster for a Section 30 order to hold another independence referendum have been refused—despite consistent polls showing support for independence now exceeding 50%.
The UK’s departure from the EU, combined with the imposition of Freeports that undermine Scotland’s territorial sovereignty, represents a profound material change in circumstances since 2014. Yet the Scottish people have been denied the chance to have their say.
Scotland now faces severe economic hardship. It is unacceptable that, at this critical juncture, affecting jobs, wellbeing, and fundamental freedoms, the democratic voice of the Scottish people remains silenced.
We call on the SNP, the Scottish Greens, and all pro-independence parties in Holyrood to treat the 2026 Scottish Parliament election as a plebiscite . This is a legitimate, internationally recognised democratic mechanism to establish the will of the Scottish people.
In Scotland, the people are sovereign. It is time they were given the right to speak.
