If the amendment of “Extradition Laws” is passed, it will severely damage the human rights such as freedom of expression and freedom of the press in Hong Kong . Therefore, we share the action of the street counters pushing for the withdrawal of “Extradition Laws” across Hong Kong organized by Civil Human Rights Front, and we hope that you will join and support the action.

All are invited to participate in Civil Human Rights Front (CHRF) street counters pushing for the withdrawal of “Extradition Laws” across Hong Kong
The Chief Executive of Hong Kong Carrie Lam and the Secretary for Security John Lee are forcefully trying to amend the extradition law using the brutal murder in Taiwan as a pretext, despite worries and opposition expressed by various sectors in the society. The Bills Committee associated with the case has hosted its first meeting on 17 April.
If the amendment is passed, the Legislative Council will lose its authority to monitor the government. At the sole discretion of the Chief Executive, anyone in Hong Kong can be detained and sent to regions where fair judicial proceedings are absent for trials and punishments. This will be the most severe blow to human rights protection and the economic foundation of Hong Kong to date. However, merely relying on the democrats’ power in the Legislative Council is now hardly sufficient to repel this draconian law. Only by everyone speaking up can the present situation be salvaged.
To this end, CHRF has decided to initiate a city-wide campaign to advocate against the amendment of extradition law on 21 April. We hope that the concerted effort of Hong Kong people will enable all citizens to understand the severity of amending the extradition law; and show the Chinese Communist Party, the Hong Kong government and the pro-establishment camp the people’s objection.
The details regarding the campaign are as follows:
Mong Kok large street counter and on-site press conference
Theme: Withdrawal of Extradition Law
Date: 21 April (Sunday)
Time: 2:00p.m.
Location: Open area opposite the grand statue at Mong Kok Langham Place (Intersection of Portland and Argyle Streets)
Representatives of organisations interested in attending the street counter and press conference are welcome to contact CHRF convenor Jimmy at 6144 4454 so arrangements can be made in advance.
Promotional campaign at street counters in various districts
This campaign aims to allow more citizens to understand the severity of amending the extradition law and urge them to participate in the demonstration calling for the “Withdrawal of the Extradition Law” on 28 April. CHRF invites organizations from all sectors to set up street counters in various communities on days including 21 April, so as to bring discussion of this issue into the community together. The organizer will provide the designs of leaflets and banners for participants to print on their own.
Any organization or individual interested in the street counters promotional campaign is welcome to contact CHRF vice-convenor Figo at 6224 3074 to obtain the designs of leaflets and banners. Doing so will also help CHRF calculate the number of street counters.
We hope that everyone opposing the amendment will join us to demand its withdrawal in unity. Please feel free to spread this message! Your help is most appreciated.
