20 January 2018 THE VIOLENCE AGAINST SOUTH AFRICAN FARMERS HAVE NOW SPREAD TO SOUTH AFRICAN SCHOOLS Dear supporter of this petition Thank you for your unwavering support to stop farm murders in South Africa. Our petition to the UN now stands at 133,535 supporters. The violence experienced by South African farmers and their farm workers has now also spread to South African schools. Julius Malema, the leader of the Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) and his followers are hell bent to promote a violent revolution in South Africa. Not only has he used an H&M advert as a pretext to promote public violence to at shopping malls, he is also turning his attention to public schools to create mayhem. The man is a menace to our South African society that once was much peaceful during the presidency of Nelson Mandela. Julius Malema now also denigrates the memory and good example set by Nelson Mandela, who wanted South Africa to be a shining example of a peace-loving nation. Malema is referring to Nelson Mandela who has been laid to rest, as a sell-out to white, monopoly capital. Mandela is not alive to defend himself against the malicious verbal attacks of a power hungry Malema, who would say anything to stir up his misled and deluded followers. Malema has the knack of saying the most hateful things about all South African political leaders, except about himself, whom he regards as the black messiah of the oppressed people. This is self-delusion at the highest level and all his followers are too scared to tell him that he is living in cuckoo land. Malema is no commander-in-chief; he has never fought a war; he does not know how to use a gun; he has an imaginary army of which he is the ‘commander-in-chief’ and his followers are all imaginary ‘soldiers’, dressed in red berets, who also have never fought a real war. He promised his EFF followers that he would meet us ‘toe to toe’ in the streets of Pretoria when we formed part of the Afriforum march to the Union Buildings on the 25th of November 2018 and we defied his warning by taking to the streets and we took part in the march. That day, there was not a single red beret in sight. Now, good people, the fight has been taken to schools to intimidate parents, teachers, and learners, to capitulate to Malema’s threats. It started with Overvaal High school. The parents of 52 learners wanted to register their children at Overvaal High school, which was a single medium Afrikaans school, and they demanded that the school become a dual medium school, which, in principle, is not a problem. The school, however, at the time when the demand was made, did not have the capacity to become a dual medium school in 2018. The matter was taken to High court by the Gauteng Department of Education, and the court ruled in favour of Overvaal High school, reaffirming that the school does not have the capacity to become dual medium at such short notice. The court also ruled that there was sufficient place for the 52 learners at two English medium schools close by and that the learners could easily be accommodated there. The Gauteng Department of Education officials and parents of the 52 learners became so incensed with rage because they lost the case that they decided to ignore the court ruling, and decided to have violent, illegal, public demonstrations at the school to force the principal and teachers to either immediately change the school into a dual medium school or to close the school. The demands, of course, were impractical and impossible to perform, and when the principal and teachers stood their ground based on the court ruling, all hell broke loose. The demonstration at first started peacefully with placards, but when the followers of the EFF and BLF arrived on the scene, it soon developed into a violent confrontation when parents of the learners of Overvaal High school were being assaulted by EFF and BLF supporters. Huge stones were placed as barricades in the roads leading to the school and tyres were set alight. Their plan backfired when several parents of learners at Overvaal High school decided to fight back to resist the violence, and two demonstrators were shot. The situation at the school presently is still tense with the police being there every day to protect the right of learners and teachers and to implement the ruling of the High Court. Fortunately, teaching and learning are being continued at Overvaal High school and the situation is being monitored on a daily basis.
