I perceive this as an insult to the thousands of people who have signed this petition, especially those who kindly made a comment with their signature saying that testing saved their life or the life of a loved one. I also noticed in paragraph 5, what can only be construed as a catastrophic spelling mistake? See if you can spot it. "Dear Mr Vardy, Thank you for your correspondence of 24 August and 3 September to Jeremy Hunt about prostate cancer screening. I have been asked to reply. I was sorry to read that you have prostate cancer, and appreciate your desire for a prostate cancer screening service to be introduced. The UK National Screening Committee (UK NSC) was commissioned by Public Health England to review the evidence for screening men for prostate cancer in 2010/11 and recommended that a national screening programme should not be introduced because: - the prostate-specific antigen test is a poor test for prostate cancer, and a more specific and sensitive test is needed; - currently, it is not possible to correctly identify those cancers that will progress and those that are indolent and may be safely watched; and - the data relating to prevalence and treatments is poor and renders planning very difficult. The prostate cancer screening model developed for the UK NSC by the University of Sheffield has recently been updated to reflect the latest data from a randomised European screwing control trial. The trial consisted of 182,000 men aged between 50 and 74 who were enrolled in seven study centres in different European countries. The results still do not support screening. The report can be found on the UK NSC website at www.screening.nhs.uk/prostatecancer. The responsibility for improving outcomes for cancer patients now lies with NHS England. NHS England has established a specialised Urology Clinical Reference Group which covers specialised services relating to urological cancers, including prostate cancer."
