The Rock Junction Action Plan

The Issue

"Not even polite" - Sign The Rock Petition

We need your help to sign our petition for the Rock Junction action plan, to reach a 5,000 target so that Wolverhampton City Council must debate this in council chamber.

Our current response, from presenting our petition in April, has not been provided due to the council choosing to merge this in secret with other traffic proposals, contrary to agreements made this year. We have also raised a complaint about this "inexplicable approach", which is "not even polite", according to a local ward councillor, leaving residents having "lost faith in the council".

The petition has 6 aims which are for improvements compliant with Tettenhall Neighbourhood Plan TNP20, are non contentious, and are to resolve greater safety, business, heritage and environmental risks currently under threat and of great concern.

Please sign and share.

The action plan is in support of The Rock Action group campaign:

A Better Wolverhampton For All

Please also help by donating to our funding campaign on Just Giving, to support the Better Wolverhampton Campaign, defend risks from contentious traffic plans, and promote safety concerns.

Our 6 aims are:

  • Alleviate traffic problems at The Rock Junction, by implementing a 3 way phase solution, by an experimental Traffic Regulatory Order (TRO).
  • Access improvements for pedestrians and cyclists.
  • Work towards a meeting with West Midlands Police and Crime Commissioner on speeding, traffic abuse and enforcement.
  • Small engineering scheme requests for greater roadway capacity at Henwood Road/The Rock pavement corner.
  • Requests for better information on basic conditions, such as safety concerns with one-way streets, pollution, and speeding.
  • Requests for more collaboration with other authorities on budgets and Civil Infrastructure Levies.

At launch and when 1st handed to Wolverhampton City Council, our petition read:

Please sign our petition to request 3 way traffic light experiments at The Rock Junction to save safety, traffic flow concerns, residents and business interests in Tettenhall Wards.

On 3rd Feb 2024, Tettenhall District Community Forum ('the forum') agreed their action plan for improvements for The Rock Junction in Tettenhall, Wolverhampton.

We are working with Wolverhampton City Council ('WCC') to assess their Traffic Regulatory Order proposals, issued first in Nov/2023 proposing to ban right turns at this junction. This is a contentious proposal and requires further analysis which WCC are proceeding with, along with other problems raised by residents during consultation.

The forum have requested that WCC proceed with our preferred option to alleviate traffic problems at The Rock Junction, by implementing a 3 way phase solution, by an experimental Traffic Regulatory Order (TRO). This is a non-contentious solution to be implemented after an ongoing review, which does not affect safety, traffic flow, or residents and business interests in Tettenhall Village, which alternative proposals may risk and impact severely should they be implemented.

Since our petition started, we have met with ward councillors and WCC council officers John Roseblade and John Charles, on Wed 14/Feb at The Rock Junction. We have handed the action plan from Tettenhall District Community Council, which covers, in addition to our experimental TRO request;
