The Canadian parliament finally recognized the Tamil Genocide on May 18, 2022.
The following email was sent to all Canadian MPs on May 20, 2022.
"Ottawa Tamil Association wholeheartedly thank you and the Canadian House of Commons for recognizing the genocide committed against the Tamil people in Sri Lanka and recognizing the May 18th of each year as Tamil Genocide Remembrance Day.
We are encouraged to see the Canadian government's recognition of the Tamil Genocide and the need to prevent future genocides. Let us use this moment to look forward and strengthen our collective effort to resolve and ensure such acts are never repeated. We would like to thank Member of Parliament Gary Anandasangaree for bringing this necessary motion to the house. We also like to thank the Government of Canada, all federal political parties, including the Liberal party of Canada, Conservative Party of Canada, New Democratic Party, Green Party of Canada, Bloc Québécois, and the independents for unanimously passing a historical motion in the House of Commons."
The recognition of genocide committed against the Tamil people is an important step in the right direction.

Since the objective of this petition is reached, the Tamil Genocide Memorial (TGM) and Ottawa Tamil Association (OTA) plan to close this petition in a week. There are more actions in the near future.
