I can't believe it has almost been one year since the terrible attacks in Christchurch. One year ago, we stood together to denounce anti-Mulism hate speech and violence. Now, I'm asking you to do it again and support this young Muslim woman, who lost her father in the attacks.

Maha lost her father, Ali, in the March 15 attacks. Now, she is calling on NZ and Australian prime ministers to denounce the anti-Muslim violence in Delhi and elsewhere, and the daily anti-Muslim sentiments in our media. Just one year on from losing her father, I am in awe of her strength:

One year later I am still asking, why did it happen? New Zealand prides itself on being a tolerant, multicultural nation. I know many Australians feel the same way, and struggle to understand how the far-right terrorist could have grown up there and been turned to hate as he did. Hopefully, this is a chance for us, as New Zealanders and Australians, to look at the bigger picture and to really examine who we are.

If we have not learned, one year on, then I am afraid we will never learn. And those who do not learn from history are doomed to repeat it.

One year ago, I was amazed to see 1.4 million of us sign a petition to denounce hatred. Today, can you do it again and stand with this amazing young woman as she honours the memory of her father, and those lost to anti-muslim violence?
