According to an article in Hurriyet newspaper 30,05,2014 despite the new bill for animal management not having been passed yet plans for a 21st century Hayırsız İsland style concentration camp for 20,000 dogs are being implemented in Kısırkaya north of İstanbul. It is feared that this will be nothing more than a slaughter center for dogs.
Has the government learnt nothing from the 1910 experience when over 80,000 dogs were rounded up on the streets of Istanbul and placed on Hayırsız İsland to die? http://streetdogstory.com/2013/09/16/street-dog-genocide/
More details to come . . .
