Petition to Make JEA Affordable and Stop Excessive Rate Increases

Petition to JEA Leadership and the Jacksonville City Council

We, the undersigned residents and customers of JEA, respectfully call on JEA’s leadership and the Jacksonville City Council to take immediate action to ensure utility services remain affordable for everyone in our community.

Families, seniors, veterans, and small businesses are struggling to keep up with the rising cost of living. Significant increases in electric and water bills place an unnecessary financial burden on hardworking residents who depend on these essential services. Access to reliable utilities should not force families to choose between paying their utility bill and meeting other basic needs.

We respectfully request that JEA:

Place an immediate pause on unnecessary or excessive rate increases.
Increase transparency by clearly explaining the reasons for any proposed rate changes and how customer funds are being used.
Hold public town hall meetings before approving future rate increases, allowing residents to provide meaningful input.
Expand bill assistance and affordability programs for low-income households, seniors, veterans, and individuals on fixed incomes.
Conduct an independent review of JEA’s spending and long-term financial planning to identify ways to reduce costs without placing additional burdens on customers.
Prioritize affordability and customer impact in all future budgeting and rate-setting decisions.
Our community deserves utility rates that are fair, transparent, and affordable. We ask JEA and our elected officials to work with residents to develop solutions that protect essential services while keeping utility costs within reach for everyone.
