The Issue

I am writing this for Giovanni. Greedy.Icecream Snakey Pop can Dan JoJo Trevor Ken Roy Anika Trini  V Billy John and Jane Does so many I can't remember them all

As the holidays approach, I look at the empty chairs around me and I am forced to ask myself the hardest question of all: Why?????

Why are they all gone? It is a heavy, lonely feeling to be the survivor. The silence they left behind is deafening. But I realized that if I wasn't here sitting at this table, I wouldn't be left to say their names. To remember their lives and what they added to mine.

So I am using my breath to fight for them. I am using my grief as fuel. I am standing up to say that we cannot accept this as normal.

The Petition

The thing that binds us together is pain

We are united in grief. Across our nations, thousands of families are facing another holiday season with an empty chair at the table. We are mothers, sisters, brothers, friends, and grandparents of every race and background who have lost someone to the global crisis of addiction.

We know we cannot stop the consumption of Fentanyl overnight, but we can stop the supply at its source.

We, the undersigned, call on our government to immediately ban and strictly regulate the specific chemical ingredients (precursors) used to manufacture Fentanyl.

Far too many of our loved ones are dying. We cannot wait for more tragedy while we are lost in the frenzy of the holidays. We demand proactive legislation to cut off the supply of these lethal ingredients before they ever become the poison that kills our children.

In the words of Marvin Gaye, "We’ve got to find a way to bring some love here today." That love looks like action. That love looks like legislation.

Stop the ingredients. Stop the death.
