Dear all,
If any of the following chimes with you, can we ask you again if you can help Researcher Joe Ingham helping put together a complete series for the BBC. It will become a historical record for this nation.
Joe's asking for the following:
In 2017 the BBC is marking 50 years since the partial decriminalisation of homosexuality.
The BBC is crowdsourcing photos, memories, film footage, historic documents, club flyers, outfits, protest banners, posters, music, diary entries and much more to help tell the story of LGBT+ life in Britain from 1967 - 2016.
With these items we are producing a major new television series to air in 2017 that will be made by 7Wonder Productions, the team behind The People's History of Pop currently on BBC Four.
So far we have had a great response from lots of people, hundreds of items have been sent in with some incredible stories attached to them. However we are still on the hunt for...
Men who were in London and/or Manchester in the 1960s and 1970s when both the Met and GMP increased the number of plain clothes officers to 'catch' men who were importuning or even just showing affection in public. Were you around at this time and were you arrested? If you are willing, we would love to hear your story.
Women who were in London in the 1960s and 1970s. Were you 'out' and if so were did you go? Do you have photos or memories of the Gateways club? What was it like to be lesbian during this period?
Did you see the Trollettes at the Black Cap in the 1970s/1980s? If you did we would love to see your photos, film footage, flyers or posters.
If you could help us with any of the above we would love for you to get in touch: history@7wonder.co.uk
Moreover, if there is something that has defined your life as an LGBT+ person over the last 50 years get in touch and let us know what you have at: history@7wonder.co.uk
Thank you! Joe from 7Wonder.
