Change the Carolina Clemson rivalry game to a time other than noon.
The Issue
Nov 18, 2015 — Wow! We are fast approaching 9,000 signatures, just a day after the petition was released! The amount of support this petition has received is gigantic, and people are definitely hearing us. We have had articles written about us all over the web:
We've even been featured on the nightly news:
http://www.wltx.com/story/sports/2015/11/17/students-start-petition-get-usc-clemson-gametime-moved/75962024/
With signatures expected to eclipse 10,000 tomorrow, it is time to act. We need to continue to post the petition on social media, especially reaching ESPN and Gamecock Athletics. We do recognize that if any change were to happen it would need to happen soon. I've been reading through a lot of the comments posted and everyone is bringing up really great points. Fanbases of both Carolina and Clemson are clearly on the same side of this issue, and we are going to try hard to get a more reasonable kickoff time.

Change the Carolina vs Clemson football game on November 28th, 2015 to a new kickoff time.
The University of South Carolina vs Clemson University rivalry game is the second oldest rivalry football game played annually. It would be the oldest one, if it didn't have to be cancelled for each student body nearly going to war with each other in 1902 (No, really, students actually almost went to war with each other in 1902: http://www.academia.edu/1578479/The_South_Carolina_Clemson_Football_War_of_1902). We are asking that this storied rivalry be changed to a new kickoff time.
The record of the current gamecock football team isn't great. They've played through one of the toughest schedules in the country, and have had to overcome adversity throughout the entire season. A few short weeks ago the city of Columbia and surrounding areas experienced some of the worst flooding to ever effect the state. Some have even called it a "Thousand Year Flood." The game against LSU (originally scheduled as a noon game) was supposed to be held at Williams-Brice Stadium, but had to be moved to Baton Rouge because of the flooding. Shortly after, USC had The Head Ball Coach, Steve Spurrier, resign from his position. Steve Spurrier has done the most for this university's football team than any other coach has ever done. He put South Carolina in the limelight, and losing him hasn't been easy for USC and the team. USC has had a lot of difficulties this season, and we are looking for some way to celebrate.
The team from upstate, otherwise known as Clemson, has had a slightly different year. They've quickly risen to be one of the best teams in college football, and currently hold the consensus number 1 ranking according to the college football playoff committee.
This season has not been an easy one for the Gamecocks. Despite playing one of the toughest schedules in the country, and facing adversity along the way, the Gamecocks schedule has been riddled with noon games.
USC vs UCF (Home) - 12:00pm
USC vs Missouri (Home) - 12:00pm
USC vs Texas A&M - 12:00pm
USC vs Florida (Home) - 12:00pm
USC vs The Citadel (Home) - 12:00pm
USC vs Clemson (Home) - 12:00pm
Noon games can be fun every once in a while, but not for more than half of the season. They leave less time for tailgating before the game, most college students are tired from getting up early to make the most out of tailgating, and the atmosphere of a mid day game isn't nearly what it can be during an afternoon game or night game.
There's something about Williams-Brice Stadium that is special at night and we haven't really seen it this year. Sure, the Kentucky game was at night, but that was the second game and is unimportant in the big picture. This game, however, hold huge implications for both teams. Clemson could be one game away from the playoffs with a win vs Carolina. As for USC, winning this game would cap of a certainly rough season in the most perfect way, playing upset to it's biggest rival. But most of all, being under a Carolina sunset, with 85,000 of your closest friends Sandstorming in Williams-Brice Stadium is what we need right now, and is something we haven't been able to see for too long of a time now.
We are asking for one thing. Move the Carolina vs Clemson game to a new time. 3:30pm, 4:00pm, 6:00pm. Something other than noon. The Carolina Clemson rivalry is one the most passionate rivalries in all of college football and giving the Gamecocks a noon game in their undeniably most important game of the year takes away the one thing that Gamecocks need the most right now. Please change the kickoff time of this game.
