So friends,
I wanted to share this post with you since it seems like that with all of the hard work that we put into raising our voices, knocking on FB walls, fighting through trolls, sharing and discussing, as well as, the time that it took to respond to everyone, and include everyone in what I believe to be a wonderful moment in human history. A moment where we had seen that our brother had been wronged, and even the smallest of us felt compelled to do something.
Well with our 1600 signatures and the earnestness of all of the regular folk who wanted to make a difference, to say thank you to CK for the sacrifice in our names, it was not in vain. Today I bring you, friends, the petition that was recently started on July 27th 2017, so you can add your names to it. It managed to rack up more support in a very short time frame, despite all of the promoting amongst our own social networks and groups that we've been doing collectively for months as strangers.
I am impressed at how all of us were so ready, and open to mobilize regardless of where we come from or what we look like.... we just knew that we had to take care of one of our own, regardless of what colour he is or we are.
These are the small pleasures in life that remind me that there is love still on this planet, and there are still good people in the world. We must not concede this as a failure, but as a success of the highest order because many of the more famous among us condemned the black community for not wanting to get together ..... well, they were wrong! All of us, all 1600 of us decided that we do not need to be Gods among men to show love, kindness, inclusion, empathy, and cooperation to and with one another. No, we do not need to be Gods in order to act with the same wisdom strength and love as the creator ...... Today in this moment, we decided to live Dr. King's dream and we imagined for a brief moment John Lennon's.
I am not famous, nor am I anything more than a concerned citizen who wanted to see a wrong righted, as did many of you; I will always have a deep concern for the well being of my fellow man and I am proud of all of you.... Many of you are not of colour, there is nothing more beautiful than that. Because we also heard words that discourage bridge building and compassion but this also proves to be false just by the shoe if support from non melinated people. Proves that there is yet still hope! You chose your humanity over convention, empathy over apathy, and courage over fear.
I thank all of you for deciding to stand for what is just and good. There is no greater gift that you can give to another than that. To trust a perfect Canadian stranger to stand with you as a sister in arms against cruelty, injustice, and inequality ( cause I know how y'all like putting bars on your windows and locking the door even when you are home kind of people.... it's huge and all jokes aside I'm honored to have shared this moment with you) is marvellous in the sight of the creator.
It is my hope that our journey together is not over, but we meet again under the same banner despite our smallness in stature. Never, ever, ever EVER let ANYTHING or ANYONE rob you of your humanity or anyone else of theirs.
blessed be!
xoxo gothic girl
