I have been participating in and helping organize The Michigan City Cardboard Boat Race for the past 6 years.

The race has grown in size and scope over the years and has become an important community event. For example, for the past two years a local business that sponsors the event has helped the Michigan City Police Department’s youth leadership academy build boats and learn how to paddle. This is an important experience for children in this academy. It teaches them how to use several hand tools, paint, and work as a team. Not to mention, they have a lot of fun in the process.

The memories and experience I have gained from being a part of this event are absolutely priceless and there are hundreds of others who have a similar opinion.

The Cardboard Boat Race is a valuable community event that brings people together, builds friendships, builds community, entertains, and helps define Michigan City as the great city that it is. It would be an a shame to see the event not happen. Please sign this petition to show your support for the event or come to the Port Authority meeting on Monday April 4th to voice your opinion.
