WE OPPOSE ANY PERMIT FOR THE INGLEWOOD ABATTOIR AS KANGAROO-MEAT PROCESSING PLANT

The issue

PLEASE TAKE ACTION NOW TO STOP THE ESTABLISHMENT OF A KANGAROO  MEAT PROCESSING PLANT IN THE  OLD INGLETON ABATTOIR

WE MUST SPEAK OUT NOW THE PERMIT IS STILL WITHIN THE PLANNING DEPARTMENT. IT HAS NOT BEEN BEFORE COUNCIL. LETS TAKE ACTION NOW

Time is running out before the application proceeds further. Staff at Loddon Shire Council are presently processing the application. It has yet to be referred to EPA.

A current proposal to the Loddon Shire Council by Campaspe Meat Company for a permit to establish a Kangaroo meat processing plant in the old Inglewood abattoir  should be strongly opposed.

The development of a processing facility can only encourage the inhumane and cruel exploitation of Kangaroos for body parts and flesh even further than the present cruel toll already being taken against our native Kangaroos. There will be even more pressure on shooters to source and kill Kangaroos

The “Harvest” of Kangaroo body parts and flesh for the European and local human consumption market has long been a significant issue for many who value our iconic Kangaroo. This led to a Parliamentary Inquiry in New South Wales in 2021 challenging claims Kangaroo populations are out of control to justify the ongoing “harvesting”

Evidence led by ecologists and scientists who specialise in mathematical modelling and population surveys, are saying that population number calculations misrepresent the actual numbers of Kangaroos and in fact some species of Kangaroos are facing extinction due to the ongoing culls. Strong evidence was also led about the inherant cruelty attached to the culling.

Claims have been made for many years that Kangaroo culling has hallmarks of cruelty and inhumane treatment as shooting takes place at night under spotlights. Nothing has changed. Kangaroos are found in daylight  with their jaws blown apart left to suffer and die in the most cruel manner. Joeys will often flee dying long protracted deaths as they will be unable to drink from their mother. It is a cruel and inhumane  industry and one that must be stopped.

There is also the issue of how such an industry was ever given the green light under the Environment Protection and Biodiversity Control Act, a piece of Legislation designed for the protection and conservation of native wildlife and habitat.

International focus is upon the Australian Kangaroo  harvesting industry as far as the United States which country will no longer support the importation of Kangaroo skins to make soccer balls and shoes.

There are strong National calls for an end to ongoing shooting  of Kangaroos for both the pet food industry and human consumption, amid claims it is an inappropriate exploitation of native wildlife. It has been argued, the indigenous first nations never farmed native wildlife, and nor should we who are not indigenous. For most indigenous the Kangaroo is a spiritual totem animal and Kangaroos must be respected.

A proposal put forward to the planning department of Loddon Shire Council to approve a Kangaroo meat processing plant in the  old Inglewood abattoir should be strongly opposed. The development of a processing facility can only encourage this inhumane and cruel exploitation even further.

Please write to the Planning Department of the Loddon Shire Council. The processing at the Inglewood abattoir is not yet operating. It has not been approved.

If you care about our environment and our native wildlife please write to the Mayor and all Councillors and voice your concerns to this project moving ahead within the Loddon Shire Council. Mark your email to "The Mayor Councillor and Citizens" you can use a link from this website page and tell them you oppose the Kangaroo meat processing

At this time, I recommend emails be sent to  loddon@loddon.vic.gov.au marking your email for the attention of  "Planning Loddon Shire Council" commencing: I strongly object to the  granting of a permit for a Kangaroo Meat Processing Facility in the closed Inglewood Abattoir for the following reasons...... this could be ethical, cruelty, objection to shooting and hunting Kangaroos for pet food, a myriad of reasons.

PLEASE TAKE ACTION AND MAKE YOUR VOICE COUNT.
